This DIY Bunny Bag Makes For the Cutest Spring Tote or Reusable Easter Basket

It isn’t spring without a Bunny Bag! This DIY Bunny Bag is the perfect spring accessory to add some extra flair to your outfit. Plus, it could also be a reusable Easter basket for when the kids go Easter egg hunting!

Growing up, one of my favorite holidays (next to Christmas, of course) was Easter. I always looked forward to getting my Easter basket filled with treats, but then taking that now empty basket and going outside to hunt for some Easter eggs that my parents, or the Easter Bunny, had hidden for me. It was so much fun to run around the yard, filling up my basket with all the colorful plastic eggs.

Drawing on the “hoppy” memory, I wanted to create a bag that could bring that Easter basket magic back now that I’m in my adulthood and made this adorable DIY Bunny Bag! With a canvas tote bag and some fabric markers, this bag is so incredibly easy to make (I think it quite literally took me 10 minutes)! This Bunny Bag is such a fun spring statement piece and would make for an absolutely precious bag to pair with your spring or Easter outfit.

Even better, this DIY Bunny Bag would be perfect for kids, too! Parents, you could easily make this bag to put your kids’ Easter treats in and let them use it while Easter egg hunting. Plus, since it’s made from a reusable tote bag, you could use it for future Easters.

  • Piece of cardboard
  • Pencil

For this project, you'll need a white canvas bag, fabric makers, a piece of cardboard, and a pencil.

Here’s How to Make Your DIY Bunny Bag:

Before you create your adorable DIY Bunny Bag, slide a piece of cardboard inside your canvas bag to prevent any color bleeding through when you decorate your bag. Now, let’s start creating the bunny’s face. I highly suggest using a pencil first to lightly trace out all of the parts of the face first before doing any coloring with fabric markers, that way if you need to make any adjustments, you can.

Here, insert a piece of cardboard into the canvas bag to prevent any color bleeding through the bag when coloring with the fabric markers.

Start by drawing a triangular nose for the bunny in the center of your canvas bag. Next, from the bottom point of the nose, draw the bunny’s mouth. I created two curved lips (as shown below).

For the bunny’s eyes, I wanted to make the bunny more animated, so I drew two half circles for the eyes on either side of the center point, above the nose. You could also opt to create two, full circles for the bunny’s eyes. Just get creative with the bunny’s expression and make it your own!

Lastly, the bunny needs whiskers! Draw some whiskers on either side of the bunny’s nose.

Now, let’s add some color to the bunny’s face! Using a black fabric marker, trace over your pencil markings for the bunny’s eyes. Next, color in the bunny’s nose with a pink fabric marker. I started by tracing over the edge of the nose then completely filled it in.

Grabbing your black fabric marker again, trace over the bunny’s whiskers and the lips.

Once the bunny’s face has been colored in, allow the tote bag to dry completely.
