These DIY Terra Cotta Pot Turkeys Are So Cute, You’ll Be Gobbling ‘Em Up

Whether used as a place card or a gift, these cute DIY Terra Cotta Pot Turkeys are perfect for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is such a special time of the year. There is nothing quite like gathering together with family and friends who you are grateful for to share some delicious, comforting food with one another. No wonder it’s one of my favorite holidays!

I always enjoy cooking scrumptious food and decorating with festive fall leaves, pumpkins, and other autumnal-inspired pieces. To make the table even more cheery, I crafted an adorable little turkey that you can make as either a place card or a little gift to tuck some treats into (or even a cute, little succulent!) for those you care about and are grateful for this Thanksgiving.

Made with just a handful of crafting supplies, you’ll be able to create a fun Thanksgiving-inspired piece that everyone be will gobbling up!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• Terra cotta pots (I got mine from Hobby Lobby)
• Paint
  • White: Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Acrylic Craft Paint in Wedding Cake
  • Yellow: Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Acrylic Craft Paint in Habañero
  • Red: Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Acrylic Craft Paint in Sunshine Yellow
  • Black: Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint in Black
  • Pink: Plaid Paint in Carnation
• Paint brushes
• Hot glue
• Decorative fall leaves
• Pencil (Optional)

How to Make Your DIY Terra Cotta Pot Turkeys:

To start the Terra Cotta Pot Turkey, I used a pencil to sketch out how I want the face to look like. You can certainly do any expression you’d like for your turkey, but for mine, I gave it eyes with eyelashes and eyebrows, a beak with a snood, and little, blushing cheeks. Feel free to get creative with your turkey and have fun with it!

After drawing out the face, I painted the eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows with my black paint and let that dry.

From there, I painted the turkey’s beak yellow and its snood with my red paint.

Afterwards, I painted on some rosy cheeks with some pink paint.

Lastly I painted on some small white dots on the eyes to create pupils for the turkey. I then let the turkey sit so the face could dry while I created the feather tail.

For the tail, I used three, small decorative fall leaves.

Starting with two of the leaves, I applied a small dot of hot glue to the bottom right corner of one of the leaves and pressed the bottom left corner to the other leaf and pressed down so the glue would adhere the two leaves.

Next, I applied some hot glue towards the center of the gap created by the two leaves and placed my third leaf on top and pressed it down. With the three leaves together, you have a tail for your turkey!

Making sure to center the tail on the opposite side of the turkey’s face, I applied some hot glue towards the very top of the terra cotta pot and delicately pressed the leaves to the glue.

Afterwards, I let the turkey sit until everything was completely dry.

There you go! Now you’ll have the cutest, little turkey to greet everyone with at the table or to give as a gift with some treats inside (or even a cute, little succulent!) to let someone know you that you are thankful for them.
