Take your breakfast to a whole new level of deliciousness with these tasty French Toast Roll-Ups.
I don’t know about you, but I think weekends call for ~fancy~ breakfasts. Why not? When you spend the week having something small and quick or grabbing breakfast on the go, you deserve a delicious and indulgent breakfast on the weekend.
Aside from pancakes, I’d have to say that French toast is probably one of my breakfast dishes. Fluffy and tender on the inside, perfectly golden brown on the outside, and dusted with warm, aromatic cinnamon, it’s not hard to love French toast.
Just the other weekend, I decided to make French toast for my fiancé, Ferdy, but I wanted to jazz them up and elevate them to make breakfast a little more special. Looking at what we had already available in the pantry, I noticed we had Nutella and bananas, which happen to be two of Ferdy’s favorite ingredients/foods (me too!). With these ingredients in hand, I tasked myself with whipping up a delicious French toast recipe that included both of them. And then it hit me: French Toast Roll-Ups filled with bananas and Nutella!
Simple to make and oozing with decadent Nutella and fresh banana, these French Toast Roll-Ups will take your breakfast to a whole new level of deliciousness.
Here’s the ingredients you’ll need:
- White Sandwich Bread
- Bananas, sliced
- Eggs (2)
- Milk (3 tbsp.)
- Cinnamon (Heaping tsp.)
- Butter (1-2 tbsp.)
Here’s how to make the French Toast Roll-Ups:
First, take your regular, white sandwich bread and cut the crusts off. Use as many slices as you’d like depending on how many roll-ups you’ll be serving. (I used 8 slices.)
Using a rolling pin, or even the bottom of a measuring cup, roll out, or press, the bread slices to flatten them.
Place and spread about 1-2 teaspoons of Nutella on the edge of the bread closest to you. Now, place 2-3 slices of banana on top of the Nutella.
Holding the fruit in place, roll the side with the filling over once and then once more so it’s tightly rolled. Then, pinch along the fold so the bread sticks together.
It’s time to make the egg mixture for the roll-ups. To make the mixture, simply whisk together 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons of milk, and a heaping teaspoon of cinnamon.
You’ll want to make sure that your pan is warm and ready to go for your French Toast Roll-Ups, so start prepping your pan. Turning it on medium heat, add a tablespoon or two of butter to your pan.
Now that your pan has warmed up, dip the roll-ups into the egg mixture and add them to the pan. Cook them in batches, turning them to cook on all sides, about 2 minutes per side.
Once cooked and nicely golden, place them on a plate and add more fruit and spread over the top. Try microwaving the Nutella for approximately 30 seconds so you can easily drizzle it over top.
Ferdy ended up really enjoying this one, so I hope you enjoy these French Toast Roll-Ups, too!
