Stay safe this Valentine’s Day with these adorable DIY face masks!

Whether we like it or not, face masks are certainly here to stay (and rightfully so!), but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun with them and make them look extra cute for Valentine’s Day! With the Day of Love right around the corner, it is the perfect time to freshen up your face mask lineup with a heart-themed one, because let’s face it—the only bug that we want to be spreading this Valentine’s Day is the love bug.
To help keep you safe and looking absolutely adorable this February 14th as you’re celebrating the relationships in your life that lift you up, I have crafted the cutest face mask that will be the perfect addition to your outfit. Plus, dare I say that this Valentine’s-inspired mask is both stylish and fun?!

Read on below to learn how to make your very own Conversation Heart Face Mask!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- A white cotton face mask
- A heart template
- Alpha stickers
- Pencil
- Fabric markers
How to Make Your Conversation Heart Face Mask:
Before creating your mask, make sure to wash it first.
With your clean and fresh cotton face mask, get out a pencil and a heart template. For my mask, I used a die-cut heart that I found at the craft store, but you could easily make a template out of cardstock or simply trace it out by hand.
Place the heart template in the center of the mask, and, with the pencil, lightly trace around the edges of the heart. Once you have the outline of the heart drawn out, it’s time to add in the “conversation” phrases to the heart.
To make the phrase extra crisp on the mask, I opted to use stickers to place on the mask and color over so that, when I removed the stickers, the phrase would be clear and easily read. I used some alpha stickers from American Crafts that I found at Target (you can shop the stickers here through this affiliate link), and there worked perfectly for this project.
For the pair of Conversation Heart Face Masks that I made, I decided to opt for the phrases “XOXO” and “Be Mine” (for illustration purposes, I am showing you the “XOXO” mask). Taking the stickers, I lined them out on the mask within the traced-out heart and firmly pressed them down so they would stick to the mask (and they stuck on really well).
Now, get out your fabric markers. (It’s important to use fabric markers for your face mask so the design does not wear off when it comes time to wash the mask.) Since these masks are for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to use the typical Day of Love colors: red and pink. So, I opted for a red and neon pink fabric marker from my kit. But choose whatever color you like, such as your favorite color or one that will go with your special Valentine’s Day outfit! Always make it fun and make it YOU!
For the “XOXO” mask, I used my red fabric marker. Start by drawing over the pencil lines you made to trace out the heart first, then start filling in the heart. While the stickers adhered very well to the mask, make sure to still color over the letters with caution.
Once the entire heart has been colored in, set the mask aside so it can completely dry.
After the mask is dry, remove the stickers to reveal the completed conversation heart! Isn’t that so neat?!
