This DIY Pumpkin Topiary Is a “Gourd-geous” Addition to a Spooky Halloween Porch Display

Learn how to make a fun Pumpkin Topiary for Halloween with some pumpkin trick or treat buckets, a planter, and festive fall plants!

Fall is almost here and I’m so excited! I absolutely love fall and, even more importantly, Halloween. I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things about Halloween is decorating my front yard and porch. I’ve always loved those pumpkin topiaries that you can buy from the store for a porch or patio, so I decided to make my own for my porch.

This DIY Pumpkin Topiary has to be one of the easiest fall or Halloween decor ideas ever made, and it is such a fun addition to any patio. With a small planter, Halloween pumpkin trick or treat buckets, a dowel, and some flowers, you can create this fun decor display for under $30. Plus, you can get creative with the flowers you choose to personalize it to your style and be festive for fall.

My favorite part about using the popular pumpkin buckets is, after Halloween, you can turn the Pumpkin Topiary around to display the plain pumpkin side of the buckets–then it’s perfect all the way through Thanksgiving! ⁣There’s nothing better than decor that can be used for multiple holidays!

Read on below to learn how to make your own DIY Pumpkin Topiary!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • A planter
  • Pumpkin trick or treat buckets
  • Dowel
  • Glue
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Soil and flowers (or faux flowers)

Here’s How to Make Your Own DIY Pumpkin Topiary:

Using a garden planter from a home improvement store, glue a dowel into the bottom center of the planter with a strong adhesive. Allow the dowel to dry and fully set.

In the meantime, cut off the handles on the pumpkin buckets with a pair of sharp scissors. Then, with a craft knife, cut a “plus sign” about the size of quarter into the bottom of the pumpkin.

Next, fill the planter with soil to its lip and pack in the soil tightly. Take the first pumpkin trick or treat bucket and slide it down the dowel at an angle.

Fill the bucket with soil and place flowers inside.

Keep sliding buckets down the dowel topsy-turvy and filling them with soil and flowers. You can, of course, opt to use faux flowers if you don’t wish to water or trend to real flowers.

Once all of the pumpkin trick or treat buckets are slid on and the flowers are planted, your Pumpkin Topiary is ready to be put out for display!

Don’t forget to turn the Pumpkin Topiary around to the non-Jack-o-lantern face side to keep it up through Thanksgiving!

How easy and fun was that?! It’s the perfect Halloween and fall porch decoration!

  1. I really love this idea. Especially the suggestion of just turning around the pumpkins 🎃 and reusing them for Thanksgiving . 🙂👍
