As The Colorventurer, I am obsessed with all things colorful, particularly rainbows. Rainbows are always so bright and cheery—that sign of happiness in a blue sky after the rain has passed. So, it’s no wonder that I love rainbow-themed clothing, decor, and just about everything else!
To celebrate all of the rainbows that’ll come after all those April showers, I am sharing this adorable DIY Rainbow Cloud Wall Hanging! This festive spring project turns out so incredibly cute and only requires a few crafting supplies to make.

Though this craft is not difficult to make, it does take some time to wrap the yarn around the cloud form, so it would be the perfect craft to work on while watching your favorite show. The finished product is worth the time and effort, though, because it turns out so cute.

Read on below to learn how to make your own DIY Rainbow Cloud Wall Hanging.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Cardboard
- White yarn (I used this one from Walmart)
- Assortment of colorful yarn (I used teal, hot pink, bright yellow, lavender, and mint yarn — all from Walmart)
- Pencil
- Scissors

Here’s How to Make Your Own DIY Rainbow Cloud Wall Hanging:
Start by grabbing a piece of cardboard. With a pencil, lightly trace a cloud shape onto the cardboard. I highly suggest using a pencil so you can always adjust the cloud shape until you are satisfied with how it looks.
Once you have your cloud shape made, lightly trace a smaller cloud within in, following the shape of the first cloud.

Now, cut out the cloud with a pair of sharp scissors. Start by cutting the exterior of the cloud, then cut out the center. It helps to poke a hole into the center first so you can get your scissors inside the center to cut it.

Once the cloud frame is cut out, take the white yarn and tie a knot around the frame to keep the yarn attached to the frame. Then start wrapping the yarn around the cloud frame to completely wrap it. You can always do small amounts of yarn at a time to make it easier to handle and tie off the yarn as you complete each section, or you can wrap the frame with the whole bundle of yarn, passing the entire bundle through the cloud as you wrap it.

Keep wrapping the white yarn around the cloud frame until it is completely wrapped in the yarn.
Next, gather the colorful yarn for the rainbow together. You can use as many colors as you’d like. For my Rainbow Cloud Wall Hanging, I used five colors with two sections per color.
Creating loops, wrap the yarn and have at least 10 stands on either side. You could also wrap the yarn around desk spindles, a piece of cardboard, or anything else that will help you keep the loops neat.

Once you have your first set of yarn together, attach it to the cloud frame by making a slip knot. Wrap the top third over the cloud frame then under, and take the end of colorful yarn and pass it through the loop, pulling tight until a knot is formed (as shown below).

Continue the process to create the rest of the rainbow, making as many sections as you’d like for your rainbow.

After the rainbow is complete, trim up the ends of the colorful yarn sections to even them all out and make them your desired length.

Lastly, attach a hanger to the top of the cloud so you can display your Rainbow Cloud Wall Hanging. Using extra white yarn, wrap it around the top of the cloud and knit off the ends, leaving a portion above the cloud to hang it from.

That’s it! Isn’t it the cutest wall hanging?! It’s so festive and happy!
