The Colorventurer’s Guide: 4 Must-Visit Spring Destinations in Central California

If you want to see some beautiful flowers in the spring, these Central Valley destinations in California are a must-visit!

Spring in the Central Valley is one of the best times of the year. The Valley is famous for its spectacular fruit and nut tree blossoms in the surrounding agricultural areas. There are also plenty of wonderful gardens around the Valley, so you will certainly catch a glimpse of some beautiful flowers during the spring.

To inspire you for your spring travels, I have rounded up four must-visit places to see in the Central Valley during the spring season. You will absolutely love all of these spectacular scenic sites!

Fresno County Blossom Trail

The Fresno County Blossom Trail is a beautiful display of pink and white blossoms and wildflowers as the county’s orchards of fruit trees bloom during March. The trail will take you through some of the outskirt communities of Fresno County and it’s a great way to see some of the “country” landscape. If you miss the blossoms, don’t worry—try driving the route from May to September when it becomes the Fresno County Fruit Trail.

The Shinzen Friendship Garden at Woodward Park

A serene 5-acre Japanese style garden built by the local Japanese-American community, this beautiful garden features a lovely koi pond and teahouse. The garden is a perfect place to take a walk or sit and relax among all of the flowers. Perhaps the best time to visit is during the spring when all of the cherry blossoms bloom. Delicate and small, these pink blossoms are a beautiful sight to behold in the Shinzen Friendship Garden. After visiting the gardens, enjoy the rest of Woodward Park and its numerous trails, playgrounds, and the lake with all of the ducks.

Pine Flat Lake

Thirty-five miles east of Fresno, in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, you can find a beautiful body of water called Pine Flat Lake. Not only does the lake provide a variety of activities to do, like recreational boating, but the area surrounding the lake is often bursting with an abundance of blooms during the spring. The hills are often filled with poppies and other beautiful blooms during the spring and summer. Make sure to also drive around the lake to see all of the adorable cows that call the lake area home.

Forestiere Underground Gardens

The Forestiere Underground Garden is a beautiful oasis to visit during the spring. Baldassare Forestiere, a Sicilian immigrant, came to the United States in 1901 to become a citrus farmer. After landing in Fresno, California, Forestiere began to sculpt his underground world after the ancient catacombs he admired back in Italy. For 40 years, he dug and carved (by hand!) a unique complex of rooms, tunnels, and gardens throughout his property. While taking a tour through the Underground Gardens, you can see impressive displays of fruit and blossoming trees that are technically growing underground. It is absolutely beautiful and a must-see sight during the spring.

I hope you enjoyed this list of places to see during the spring in Central California!
